As our first-ever annual 3-course tasting adventure and buffet feast, we are going to celebrate Black History Month with a special tour of Caribbean food and flavors that reverberate the art, culture, and history of the African American society in Canada and the United States.
Hosted by Jane Bond BBQ at their Glamp-Shack venue in Calgary in collaboration with Simply Caribbean, we invite foodies from all walks of life, especially those who would want to have a rich taste of Black food, cocktails, and live music with a fine touch of Southern BBQ and island-style cuisine right here in Canada.
All you have to do is be there on Feb 14, 15, 21, or 22 by 6:00 PM to be part of our Caribbean tasting adventure, and rest assured, we’ll give you a perfect evening.
Here’s how:
- Our Caribbean-tasting adventure will serve special tapas & cocktails from the Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, and Jamaica.
As a full-scale tasting event, we will have multiple pairing courses of black tapas and Caribbean cocktails waiting for you, all the way from the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica.
That is, after welcoming you with a refreshing starter of a Jamaican patty and warming your throat with a spicy rum punch. Courtesy— our tour guide and bar captain!
Alright, as you settle down and start feeling the groove, we will serve our first special black pairing course from the Bahamas.
- Course 1 (Bahamas) at 6:30 PM sharp will serve as an appetizer and include a fresh conch ceviche in a seashell shooter with fried banana chips. (No tongue-twister intended). It will also be complemented with a special cocktail from the Bahamas called “Bahama Breeze.”
- Course 2 (Trinidad & Tobago) at 6:50 PM will serve hot Fire Roasted Crab on Mango Seaweed Salad and Crispy Black Squid Ink Noodles from the islands of Trinidad & Tobago. Again, it will have a spicy local cocktail called “Spiced Sorrel Negroni” to help you wash down the spicy Caribbean flavors.
- Course 3 (Jamaica) will follow at 7:10 PM, serving jerk pork belly in fried plantain cups and a dark and stormy cocktail from the beaches of Jamaica.
Are you feeling tempted already?
Well, we won’t keep you waiting for too long for the main course, either.
Presenting our main event!
- An island-style buffet made personally for you by Chef Jenny B & Simply Caribbean Restaurant.
As you breathe in the air and feel the raw music, and by the time your appetite is all stimulated, we will have your table enchanted with our trademark island-style buffet resonant with the world-famous Caribbean archipelago.
This specially prepared platter of flavorsome Caribbean food will showcase some of the most drool-worthy black dishes, such as jerk chicken, curry goat, ackee & salt fish, stewed oxtail, festival dumplings, rasta pasta, creamy coleslaw, and rice & peas that are worth your every penny and minute.
And if that’s not overwhelming enough, why not grab a quick and exotic island-style trifle to stir up your taste buds?
Either way, the party isn’t over yet!
- Live music and dancing will, of course, be complimentary!
What’s a party without a dance floor?
Well, don’t worry, we have plenty of space to let those moves out, whether solo or with your partner or friends.
Our open bar and the crew will make sure you stay in the groove while the night will still be loud till late 9:00 PM.
All while our talented Black friends and musicians play live music on traditional steel pan drums to give you the perfect vibe of all things Caribbean.
- Southern-style cooking to give your favorite food a rich taste and texture.
Known for our rich tapestry of modern and traditional cuisine, Jane Bond BBQ specializes in a rare style of barbecuing called “Southern BBQ,” which originates in the Southern regions of Canada and the United States. Hence, the name!
Peculiar for its rather slow cooking technique over a raw flame, either burning wood or charcoal, it uses a creative side of dry rubs for seasoning the meat to obtain a spicy and rich flavor.
As spicy as it is, our Southern BBQ dishes are as juicy and sensational as they come.
- Multiple days of the event will let you choose your perfect date.
As a heartfelt tribute to the struggles and achievements of our African American friends, we are glad to have been able to organize this event on multiple occasions across the historical month of February.
Hosted on weekends for a couple of weeks straight, this event will take place on 4 separate days, firstly on 14 and 15 Feb, and then the next weekend on 21 and 22 Feb, 2025. A perfect spot to celebrate Black History Month and spend your weekend with your loved ones all the while.
